If you do this exercise, you will increase your musical ear 1000% (whoa, that's a lot)

This game requires two people. A note is played on the piano while both players are looking. Then, while one player closes their eyes, the other player plays a second (different) note.

The second player opens their eyes and attempts to find the new note with a minimum number of attempts.

The game is mastered when both players can find the second note consistently on the first try.

Here's why it works:

At first, both players simply hunt and peck. However, you soon learn to hear the intervals in your head before pecking out random notes. Eventually, you actually begin to hear the notes BEFORE you play them! Really!

Then, when you are playing the piano by ear and hear an idea in your head, you can find it!
