Piano Teacher's Bio:

My name is David Sprunger, author of the piano lessons course titled "Pattern Piano and Keyboard". I'm having the time of my life leading a seven piece band based in southern Oregon, USA. In addition I'm playing quite a few solo gigs and help out as a worship leader in our local church. For the past nine years I've been exclusively teaching piano lessons on the Internet. This has turned out to be incredibly rewarding for me and has provided a path to music for over 100,000 students around the world!

Through the years I've been privileged to be involved full time in the music industry.

My education was at Cal State University, California, where I majored in Piano performance. Immediately following that I worked as an award-winning choral author for Alfred Publishing, a worldwide leader in sheet music. In addition I was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild as a registered piano tuner/technician. (My father and grandfather also were piano tuners)

As a recording session leader in local and major Los Angeles studios I oversaw production of music for advertising and various other musical projects. I also had the honor to be a local piano teacher for over 12 years. We had over 60 students a week! Teaching that many students took a lot of energy, but it was so very rewarding.

It was during my time as a teacher here in Oregon that I found that there was a great need for a method to teach piano students to play the piano by ear, without the need for written sheet music. If you go into local piano stores or music shops, you'll find rows upon rows of music books that will teach the piano student to read music, but there really is no comprehensive curriculum that will teach a student to sit down at the piano and play any song by ear. Because of this, I spent many years developing and honing the technique of rhythmic patterns, which is the piano lessons technique taught in the course demonstrated on this website. Once the course was developed, I began using it with my local piano lesson students. The piano lesson students that really seemed to gravitate toward this technique were adult beginners as well as those that were returning to the piano after many years.

As I used the course locally I also began sharing it with students on the Internet. As video became available on the net I recorded the piano course in video format. Since that time the number of students that have connected with this piano lessons site has been overwhelming. Every day I'm totally blown away by the number of piano students that I get to connect with worldwide.
